নতুন মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প শনিবার কানাডা ও মেক্সিকোর পণ্য আমদানিতে ২৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপের আদেশ দেন। এছাড়া চীনের পণ্য আমদানিতে অতিরিক্ত আরও ১০ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপের নির্দেশ দেন তিনি। শনিবার এ-সংক্রান্ত তিনটি পৃথক নির্বাহী আদেশে সই করেন ট্রাম্প, যা আগামী মঙ্গলবার থেকে কার্যকর হবে।

এ ঘটনার পর মেক্সিকোর প্রেসিডেন্ট ক্লদিয়া শেনবাউম শনিবারই ঘোষণা দেন, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের এই শুল্ক আরোপের বিরুদ্ধে পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেবে তার দেশ। শুল্ক আরোপসহ নিজস্ব অন্যান্য পদক্ষেপের মাধ্যমে এই পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।

 

কানাডার প্রধানমন্ত্রী জাস্টিন ট্রুডো বলেছেন, ১৫৫ বিলিয়ন ডলার মূল্যের মার্কিন পণ্যের ওপর ২৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ করবে তার সরকার।

 

মঙ্গলবার থেকে ৩০ বিলিয়ন ডলার মূল্যের মার্কিন পণ্যের ওপর এই শুল্ক কার্যকর হবে। আর বাকি ১২৫ বিলিয়ন ডলার মূল্যের মার্কিন পণ্যের ওপর শুল্ক আরোপ কার্যকর হবে ২১ দিনের মধ্যে।

 

অন্যদিকে চীনের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, তারা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিরুদ্ধে অনুরূপ পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেবে।

 

চীনের বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, আমেরিকার শুল্ক আরোপের পদক্ষেপে চীন ভীষণ অসন্তুষ্ট। তারা দৃঢ়ভাবে এর বিরোধিতা করে। এটি বিশ্ব বাণিজ্য সংস্থার (ডব্লিউটিও) নিয়মনীতির গুরুতর লঙ্ঘন। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিরুদ্ধে অনুরূপ পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে। সূত্র: বিবিসি, এএফপি

কথায় আছে, অন্যকে ভালোবাসার আগে নিজেকে ভালোবাসতে হয়। নিজেকে ভালোবাসতে একটা ব্যতিক্রম পদ্ধতি বের করেছেন তামান্না ভাটিয়া। তবে এটা প্রথম নয়। তিনি এর আগেও বডি পজিটিভিটি নিয়ে কথা বলেছেন। এবার জানালেন নিজেকে ভালোবাসতে প্রতিদিন কী করেন।

মাসুম মিনাওয়ালাকে দেওয়া একটি সাক্ষাৎকারে তামান্না জানান, নিজেকে ভালোবাসতে তিনি একটি ব্যতিক্রম পদ্ধতি খুঁজে বের করেছেন। আর সেটা তিনি প্রতিদিনই করেন।

তামান্না বললেন, ‘আমি আমার শরীরকে খুব ভালোবাসি। টানা কাজ করার পর আমি রাতে বাসায় ফিরে স্নান করি। সেই সঙ্গে আমার শরীরের প্রতিটা অংশকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই। আমি জানি আমার শরীর প্রতিদিন কত কিছু সহ্য করে। আমার পাশে থাকার জন্য ধন্যবাদ জানাই।’এদিন তিনি আরও জানান, একটা সময় শরীর নিয়ে তাকে কেমন দেখতে লাগছে সেগুলো নিয়ে ভীষণ চিন্তিত থাকতেন। ইনস্ট্যান্ট বলিউডকে অভিনেত্রী একবার জানিয়েছিলেন ছোটবেলায় তাকে রোগা এবং ফিট বলা হতো। তখন তার কাছেই সেটা সৌন্দর্যের সংজ্ঞা ছিল। এমনকি ছবিতে কেমন দেখতে লাগছে তাকে বা কী সেটা নিয়েও তিনি নিজের মতো করে সৌন্দর্যের সংজ্ঞা বানিয়েছিলেন। কিন্তু পরে ক্রমে ক্রমে বোঝেন এগুলোর একটা সময় পর্যন্ত বাস্তবতা আছে। নিজের প্রতি ভালো লাগা তৈরি করে না এগুলো।

‘আজ কী রাত’ গানটি হিট হওয়ার পর তিনি তার শরীরকে ভালোবাসতে শুরু করেন। বুঝেছেন যে যেমন সেভাবেই সুন্দর। সেভাবেই তিনি ভালো আছেন।

লকার সুবিধা কী, কীভাবে রাখা হয় মূল্যবান সামগ্রী

মূল্যবান সামগ্রী নিরাপদ রাখতে ব্যাংকের সেফ ডিপোজিট লকার ব্যবহার করেন অনেকে। সাধারণভাবে স্বর্ণের গহনা, জমির দলিল, মেয়াদি আমানতের স্লিপসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নথিপত্র এবং মূল্যবান জিনিসপত্র রাখার জন্য লকার ভাড়া নেওয়া হয়। প্রতিটি ব্যাংকের বাছাই করা কিছু শাখায় এ সুবিধা থাকে। আপনি যে ব্যাংকে লকার ভাড়া নিতে চান, সেখানে অবশ্যই একটি অ্যাকাউন্ট থাকতে হবে।

ব্যাংকের লকার ব্যবস্থা আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে স্বীকৃত একটি পদ্ধতি। দেশে নতুন করে এটি আলোচনায় এসেছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সাবেক ডেপুটি গভর্নর সিতাংশু কুমার সুর চৌধুরীর লকার থেকে স্বর্ণ, নগদ ডলার, ইউরোর মতো সামগ্রী উদ্ধার করে তা জব্দের পর। তাঁর এ লকার ছিল কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকে।

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক বা বাণিজ্যিক ব্যাংকের সবচেয়ে সুরক্ষিত এলাকা হিসেবে পরিচিত ভল্ট। বহুস্তরের নিরাপত্তা বেষ্টনী পেরিয়ে লকার এলাকায় প্রবেশ করতে হয়। ভল্টের ভেতরে আলাদা রুমে থাকে লকার ব্যবস্থা। প্রতিটি ব্যাংকের লকারের মূল ফটকের চাবি শুধু ব্যাংকের নির্ধারিত কর্মকর্তার কাছে থাকে। এসব লকার খোলার জন্য অবশ্যই দুটি চাবির প্রয়োজন হয়, যার একটি গ্রাহক এবং অপরটি ব্যাংকের নির্ধারিত কর্মকর্তার কাছে থাকে। একক চাবি দিয়ে কখনোই এই লকার খোলা যায় না। আবার লকার আটকাতেও দুটি চাবির প্রয়োজন হয়।

ব্যাংকের নির্ধারিত কর্মকর্তার কাছে থাকা চাবি ‘মাস্টার কি’ হিসেবে পরিচিত। প্রতি লকার খোলার সময় প্রথমে এই মাস্টার কি দিয়ে ঘোরাতে হয়। এরপর ব্যাংক কর্মকর্তা সেখান থেকে বেরিয়ে এলে গ্রাহক নিজের চাবি দিয়ে লকার খোলেন। সেফ ডিপোজিট লকারে কী রাখা হচ্ছে, কোথাও ঘোষণা দেওয়ারও দরকার নেই। কৌটা, বাক্স বা কাপড়ে মুড়িয়ে যিনি ভাড়া নেন, তিনিই জানেন এতে কী আছে। লকার নেওয়ার সময় নির্দিষ্ট একটি ফরম পূরণ করে একটি চুক্তিপত্রে স্বাক্ষর করতে হয়। প্রতিবার প্রবেশ ও বের হওয়ার সময় একটি রেজিস্ট্রারে লিখতে হয়। সংরক্ষিত সম্পদের জন্য নিজের পছন্দের যে কোনো ব্যক্তিকে নমিনি করতে হয়। চাইলে যৌথভাবেও লকার ভাড়া নেওয়া যায়। কোনো কারণে চাবি হারিয়ে গেলে কাছের থানায় সাধারণ ডায়েরি বা জিডি করে এরপর শাখাকে দ্রুত সময়ে জানাতে হয়।

প্রতিটি ব্যাংকে সাধারণভাবে ছোট, মাঝারি ও বড় আকারের লকার থাকে। ব্যাংক ও আকারভেদে লকারের ভাড়া নির্ধারিত হয়। সরকারি ব্যাংকের লকার চার্জ তুলনামূলক কম। সাধারণত বার্ষিক হারে চার্জ নেয় ব্যাংক। ব্যাংকের লকারে কোনো ধরনের বিস্ফোরক দ্রব্য, নেশাজাতীয় দ্রব্য, টাকা-পয়সা রাখা যাবে না বলে চুক্তিপত্রে উল্লেখ থাকে। অবশ্য গ্রাহক ছাড়া লকারের মালপত্র ও তার পরিমাণ সম্পর্কে ব্যাংকের জানার অবকাশ নেই। এমনকি গোপনীয় স্থান হিসেবে লকার রুমে ক্লোজ সার্কিট বা সিসি ক্যামেরাও রাখা হয় না। অবশ্য নিরাপত্তার জন্য লকার রুমে প্রবেশ ও বের হওয়ার পথে সিসি ক্যামেরা থাকে। এই সুযোগ নিয়ে অনেকেই স্বর্ণ ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দলিলের পাশাপাশি নগদ ডলার, ইউরোর মতো জিনিস রাখছে। সাধারণভাবে একজন ব্যক্তি বিদেশ ভ্রমণ শেষে সর্বোচ্চ ১০ হাজার ডলার নগদ রাখতে পারেন। এর বেশি ডলার রাখা বেআইনি।

কয়েক বছর ধরে অনেকেরই এই নিয়ম না মানার অভিযোগ রয়েছে। অনেকেই এখন বিনিয়োগের উপাদান হিসেবে ডলার, ইউরোর মতো বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা কিনে রাখছেন। ২০২১ সাল থেকে ডলারের দর হুহু করে বাড়ার পর বেআইনিভাবে নগদ ডলার কিনে বিভিন্নভাবে সংরক্ষণের নানা অভিযোগ শোনা যাচ্ছে। এতদিন সুনির্দিষ্ট কোনো তথ্য ছিল না। তবে গত ২৬ জানুয়ারি এস কে সুরের লকারে নগদ বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা, স্বর্ণ, এফডিআরের কাগজ পাওয়ার পর নতুন করে বিষয়টি সামনে এসেছে।

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের ভল্ট এরিয়ায় স্থাপিত লকারকে সবচেয়ে বেশি সুরক্ষিত বিবেচনা করা হয়। তবে কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকের কর্মকর্তাদের বাইরে কেউ সেখানে কিছু রাখতে পারেন না। কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকের সহকারী পরিচালক থেকে নির্বাহী পরিচালকদের জন্য এ সুবিধা দেওয়া হয়। অবসরের পরও ২০ বছর পর্যন্ত সেখানে বিভিন্ন সামগ্রী রাখা যায়। অবশ্য লকার থেকে মালপত্র আনা-নেওয়ার ঝামেলা বিবেচনায় খুব কমসংখ্যক কর্মকর্তা তা ব্যবহার করেন। বাণিজ্যিক ব্যাংকের মতো কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকের লকারেও কী রাখা হচ্ছে, তার ঘোষণা দিতে হয় না। 

সাবেক ডেপুটি গভর্নর সিতাংশু কুমার সুর চৌধুরীর (এস কে সুর) লকারে মিলেছে ১ হাজার ৫ গ্রাম স্বর্ণের গহনা, নগদ ১ লাখ ৬৯ হাজার ৩০০ ডলার, ৫৫ হাজার ইউরো ও ৭০ লাখ টাকার এফডিআরের নথি। সব মিলিয়ে বাংলাদেশি মুদ্রায় যার মূল্যমান ৪ কোটি ৬৯ লাখ টাকা। লকার যেহেতু ব্যক্তিগত গোপনীয় বিষয়, যে কারণে দুদক কর্মকর্তাদের এটি খোলার আগে আদালতের আদেশ আনতে হয়েছিল। এর আগে গত ১৯ জানুয়ারি রাজধানীর ধানমন্ডিতে এস কে সুরের বাসায় অভিযান চালায় দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন (দুদক)। এ সময় তাঁর নামে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকে লকার থাকার তথ্য পায় সংস্থাটি। বিভিন্ন প্রক্রিয়া শেষে দুদক পরিচালক কাজী সায়েমুজ্জমানের নেতৃত্বে সাত সদস্যের একটি প্রতিনিধি দল অংশ নেয়। পরদিন আদালতে আবার জব্দ তালিকা উপস্থাপন করে দুদক।

Trump administration to cancel student visas of pro-Palestinian protesters

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 29 aimed at combating antisemitism and vowed to deport international college students and others involved in pro-Palestinian protests."To all the resident aliens who joined in the pro-jihadist protests, we put you on notice: come 2025, we will find you, and we will deport you," Trump said in the fact sheet.

"I will also quickly cancel the student visas of all Hamas sympathisers on college campuses, which have been infested with radicalism like never before," the president said, echoing a 2024 campaign promise.

Rights groups and legal scholars said the new measure would violate constitutional free speech rights and would likely draw legal challenges.

"The First Amendment protects everyone in the United States, including foreign citizens studying at American universities," said Carrie DeCell, senior staff attorney at the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University. "Deporting non-citizens on the basis of their political speech would be unconstitutional."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a large Muslim advocacy group, said it would consider challenging the order in court if Trump tried to implement it.

The Hamas attacks and the subsequent Israeli assault on the Palestinian coastal enclave of Gaza led to several months of pro-Palestinian protests that roiled US college campuses. Civil rights groups documented a surge in hate crimes and incidents directed at Jews, Muslims, Arabs and other people of Middle Eastern descent.

The order requires agency and department leaders to provide the White House with recommendations within 60 days on all criminal and civil authorities that could be used to fight antisemitism, according to the fact sheet.

It calls for an inventory and analysis of all court cases involving K-12 schools, colleges and universities and alleged civil rights violations associated with pro-Palestinian campus protests, potentially leading to actions to remove "alien students and staff."

Many pro-Palestinian protesters denied supporting Hamas or engaging in antisemitic acts, saying they were demonstrating against Israel's military assault on Gaza, where health authorities say more than 47,000 people have been killed.

Maya Berry, executive director of the Arab American Institute, a nonpartisan civil rights group, said the group was deeply troubled by the apparent conflation of criticism of Israel with alleged antisemitism. Berry said the order would have a chilling effect on free speech across the US.

20 Bangladeshis feared dead in Libya

Twenty bodies, believed to be of Bangladeshis killed after a boat capsized in the Mediterranean near Brega of Libya last week, have been buried in the north African country. Bangladesh foreign ministry in a message to the media last night said no identification document was found on them and that the Red Crescent, which handled the burials, believes the victims were Bangladeshis.

It said the bodies were buried in Ajdabiya, which is about 40km away from Brega on Friday, as they were decomposing.

The incident occurred in an area under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Libyan Government, based in Benghazi. The Bangladesh embassy has yet to obtain the necessary clearance to visit the site, according to the ministry message.

Meanwhile, Shariful Hasan, associate director (Migration and Youth Platform) of BRAC, in a social media post last night said most of the deceased were from Madaripur and Shariatpur, and some from Bhairab.

He said this based on information from the Bangladesh embassy in Libya and the victims' families.

"According to my information, at least three more bodies may have washed up. There were at least 25 people in the group. I think two are alive, but I don't know where they are. It is unclear how the accident happened," he wrote.He said Bangladesh ranked first among countries whose nationals attempted to cross the Mediterranean in 2024. In the past year alone, 13,044 Bangladeshis were identified as taking this route.

The Bangladesh embassy has not been able to confirm the number of Bangladeshis killed in last week's boat capsize.

"We have heard that several Bangladeshis may have died in the boat capsize, but we have no confirmation yet," an official of the embassy told The Daily Star last night.

The official said once a clearance is obtained, a team from the embassy would travel to the area to gather information, identify the deceased, and facilitate repatriation of the bodies if those are of Bangladeshis.

On January 30, the Bangladesh embassy in Libya on its Facebook page said several bodies of migrants had been recovered over the past two days from the shores of Brega. It said the bodies washed ashore after a boat carrying migrants capsized in the Mediterranean.

The embassy urged anyone with information about Bangladeshis who may have died, been injured, or affected by the incident to come forward. Concerned individuals can contact the embassy via its Facebook page or official mobile numbers: +218916994202 and +218916994207.

সরকারি অনুদানপ্রাপ্ত ‘জলে জ্বলে তারা’ সিনেমার শুটিং শুরু হয় ২০২১ সালে। কিন্তু শুটিং শুরুর তিন মাসের মাথায় করোনা মহামারি ও আর্থিক সংকটে বন্ধ হয়ে যায় সিনেমার কাজ।

একাধিকবার শুটিং বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়া এ সিনেমার কাজ শেষ হলে প্রেক্ষাগৃহে মুক্তির বিষয়েও বাধে জটিলতা। অসংখ্যবার মুক্তির তারিখ ঠিক করা হলেও শেষ পর্যন্ত প্রেক্ষাগৃহে মুক্তি পায়নি সিনেমাটি।
 
রোমান্টিক ঘরানার সিনেমা হওয়ায় সিনেমা সংশ্লিষ্টরা অবশেষে চলতি মাসের ভালোবাসা দিবসেই প্রেক্ষাগৃহে মুক্তি দিতে চলেছেন নতুন এ সিনেমাটি।

বর্তমানে সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে দেখা যায়, অভিনেতা-অভিনেত্রীসহ ইনফ্লুয়েন্সারদের ছড়াছড়ি। আর তা দেখে নতুন প্রজন্মের ছেলে-মেয়েরা প্রভাবিত হয়। সেলিব্রিটি ও ইনফ্লুয়েন্সারদের মতো করেই তারা জীবন যাপন করতে চায়।

মিস ইউনিভার্স ও বলিউড অভিনেত্রী লারা দত্ত। ক্যারিয়ারে দর্শকদের উপহার দিয়েছেন অনেক ব্যবসাসফল সিনেমা। আগের মত এখন আর তেমন ভাবে বড় পর্দায় দেখা মেলে না তার। তবে বিভিন্ন সময় বিভিন্ন ইস্যুতে মন্তব্য করতে দেখা যায়। এবার সেলিব্রিটি ও ইনফ্লুয়েন্সারদের জীবনযাপনের পিছনে লুকিয়ে থাকা বাস্তবতা নিয়ে মুখ খুলেছেন এই অভিনেত্রী। বিশেষ করে তরুণ প্রজন্মকে জানানোর জন্যই তিনি এই বিষয়ে আলোচনা করেছেন। অভিনেত্রীর কথায় ‘এটা বাস্তবতা নয়’।

ভারতীয় সংবাদমাধ্যম হিন্দুস্তান টাইমসের প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, সম্প্রতি এক সাক্ষাৎকারে লারা দত্ত বলেছেন, ‘আমি কেবল নতুন প্রজন্মকে জানাতে চাই যে আপনারা যে গ্ল্যামারেস বিষয়টি দেখেন, তারকাদের প্রতিনিয়ত নতুন পোশাক বা নতুন নতুন জিনিস ব্যবহার করতে দেখেন তার বেশির ভাগের উপরই আমাদের নিজেদের মালিকানা থাকে না।’

তার কথায়, ‘প্রতিটি অনুষ্ঠানে, প্রতিটি অ্যাওয়ার্ড প্রোগ্রামে, বড় বড় বিয়ে বাড়িতে অভিনেতা-অভিনেত্রী যা যা পরে সেজে আসেন। তার বেশির ভাগটাই হয় ধার করা। ডিজাইনার পোশাক থেকে চুলের স্টাইল, মেকআপ, এর গয়না ৯৯ শতাংশই হয় ধার করা, এগুলো নিজের হয়না, সেদিনের অনুষ্ঠান শেষ হয়ে গেলে এগুলো সব ফিরে যায়।’ 

এরপর বলেন, ‘ শুধু মেয়েরাই নয়, ছেলেরাও বর্তমানে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় এইসব দেখে প্রভাবিত হচ্ছে। বর্তমান প্রজন্ম নিজেদের সত্তাকে ভুলে যাচ্ছে, অন্যের মতো হয়ে উঠতে চেষ্টা করছে।’

অভিনেত্রীর ভাষ্য, ‘আর এই ব্যাপারটা যেন বিপ্লবের মতো ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে। আর তা মোটেই ভালো কথা নয়। যাতে সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যম তাদের কোনও খুঁত ধরা না পরে তার জন্য তারা প্রচুর ফিলটার ব্যবহার করছে। তবে আমাদের সন্তানদের আরও শক্তিশালী ও উন্নত করতে হবে। তারা কে এবং তাদের মূল্য কী? তা তাদের আরও ভালো করে বোঝাতে হবে।’
